A LETTER TO JDATE: SUBMITTED BY A READER
One of my readers copied me on this letter she sent to JDate. Her issue with them is that she feels their claim to have a certain number of members is misleading, since any number of those "members" are actually "profiles" and not paying members who could view your emails, were you to contact them...
Dear JDate:
It now costs money to send email and/or to view email. This enables you to say that you have x number of people who belong, that there are x number of people online right now and that you are the world's largest Jewish dating site when it is unclear how many of these people can't be accessed. I believe this is tantamount to fraud. So I'd like to be taken off your site. I couldn't find a way to do this on line.
Sincerely,
J.

Everybody loves a jewi$h gal!
Jdate was better when it was free. I used to get tons of dates...now I'm chasing after men and it sucks.
You are so right. I put a profile on JDate years ago (back in about 1999) from Israel and I got a decent number of dates (I NEVER write to men first so the money issue wasn't as big for me). However, now that I have to pay to even see my mail, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I was seriously considering taking my profile down but haven't, so I am one of those people who has a profile there and I do get mail but no one can contact me and I can't them.
It would be interesting to see how the company has fared as a business since charging to even see mail. Then again, they are probably making more money than they used to and don't care your love life is impeded because half the people there aren't really accessible.
But truth be told, most men I have met on the internet have been so bland or shockingly incompatible with me that I don't think it's worth much investment of time, let alone money.
